Walking for Mum 💙🕊️
Tuesday 3rd NovThis Sunday, our family will be walking together in loving memory of our beautiful mum, Mireya, who we lost to Motor Neurone Disease in January this year.
Mum had bulbar onset MND, and everything happened so quickly. We watched this cruel disease take away her ability to speak, eat, move and eventually breathe on her own.
One of the hardest parts was knowing that through it all, Mum was still there. Her mind was intact. She was still herself, still our mum, but her body could no longer do the things she wanted it to do.
It’s something I don’t think words could ever fully describe, and something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
But MND was never who Mum was.
She was funny, kind, passionate, resilient and incredibly brave. She loved going away to the beach and spending time with her family. We were her whole world, and she always went above and beyond to make sure we never went without or had to suffer.
Even when she was the one suffering, she still tried to protect us from it. I could see how hard things were for her, but she kept going, putting on a brave face for us, just as she had always put us first throughout her life.
That was Mum. Always thinking of everyone else, even when she was the one who needed looking after.
Watching someone you love go through MND is heartbreaking. It takes so much from the person living with it and from everyone who loves them.
Mum spent her life doing everything she could for us. Now, walking together as a family is one small way we can do something for her.
We’re walking to honour her life, her strength and all the love she gave us. Because she deserved everything.
And we’re walking in the hope that one day, no other family will have to experience the heartbreak of MND.
If you’re able to support our walk with a donation, no matter how small, we’d be incredibly grateful. And if you can’t donate, sharing our page would mean just as much.
For Mum. For every family affected by MND. And for a future without this devastating disease. 💙
We love you, Mum. Always. ❤️🕊️
